NIO’s Onvo L80 SUV Launches, Deliveries Start Saturday

Nio's Onvo launches affordable L80 SUV, undercutting Tesla Model Y price in China.

  • Nio’s mass-market subsidiary, Onvo, officially launched the L80 family SUV on Friday, with deliveries starting Saturday.
  • The vehicle starts at 242,800 yuan (~$33,400) and undercuts the base Tesla Model Y’s price in China by roughly 9%.
  • The Onvo brand contributed over 13,000 deliveries in Q1 2026, accounting for about 16% of Nio Inc.‘s group-wide total.
  • Shares of Nio Inc closed 4% higher this week, ending a three-week losing streak.

On Friday, coinciding with International Day of Families, Nio‘s subsidiary Onvo officially launched its L80, a large five-seat family SUV, with deliveries scheduled to begin immediately. This launch marks a significant step for the mass-market brand, which Nio created in 2024 to complement its luxury EV lineup. Consequently, the L80 is aggressively priced from 242,800 yuan for the entry-level Pro trim, according to details reported by CnEVPost.

Under Nio‘s Battery-as-a-Service model, the Pro trim’s starting price drops to just 156,800 yuan. The final launch price actually reflects a 1.22% reduction from pre-sale figures, with Nio absorbing rising raw material costs. Key features include a 900-volt architecture, standard air suspension, and class-leading energy consumption of 14.3 kWh per 100 km.

CEO William Li declared on X, “On this special day, we officially launched the ONVO L80, a true game-changer in the large 5-seater SUV segment!” Interestingly, the base Tesla Model Y is priced at 263,500 yuan, representing a premium of about 9% over the Onvo L80. Meanwhile, the higher Ultra+ trim adds all-wheel drive, LiDAR, and Nio‘s advanced driving chip.

The Onvo brand’s first vehicle was the L60, followed by the L90 launched in July 2025. “With an expanding product lineup and continuous product upgrades, the ONVO brand will deliver the finest mobility experiences to more family users, driving steady sales growth,” Li said in March. Onvo contributed 13,339 vehicles in Q1 2026, roughly 16% of the group’s 83,465 total deliveries.

Retail sentiment on Stocktwits stayed neutral, with one user voicing optimism for a further rally. Nio stock has gained 53% over the past 12 months, breaking a three-week losing streak with a 4% weekly gain.
