Liberland Honors Ethereum Founder Buterin With Star-Shaped Medal

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin received the highest state distinction from the micronation Liberland during a Network State event at ETHPrague 2026. The “First Class Order of Merit of the Star of Liberland” was awarded for his technical achievements and advancement of ideas on decentralized societies.

However, Liberland‘s own prime minister, Tron founder Justin Sun, has not received this distinction. Sun was elected to the role in October 2024 and has since been re-elected seven times. His initial platform emphasized a strong U.S. relationship and his investments in World Liberty Financial.

Consequently, those statements have not aged well as a legal dispute unfolds. The co-founder of WLFI now claims Sun is trying to “torch” the firm as both parties launch lawsuits against each other. Protos also notes it is pretty sure Sun has never set foot in Liberland.

Meanwhile, the micronation recently highlighted its resilience after a 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the region. President Vít Jedlička stated every structure is designed for such events. These structures include a tent beach bar and a fully constructed treehouse.
