- Parties will also explore real-world asset tokenization via Tether‘s Hadron platform and instant settlement mechanisms.
Tether and the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) announced Tuesday a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore tokenized securities, blockchain-based market infrastructure, and the potential use of USDt (USDT) as a settlement layer. The agreement marks one of the most concrete steps toward integrating digital assets into a formal African securities market.
According to the Africa/” rel=”noopener noreferrer” target=”_blank”>announcement, the memorandum outlines plans to evaluate blockchain-based market infrastructure, digital asset education, and real-world asset tokenization. The parties will consider deploying Tether‘s Hadron tokenization platform for issuing and trading tokenized securities.
The agreement also calls for assessing instant settlement mechanisms and the potential use of USDT as a digital settlement infrastructure layer. However, any implementation would occur only where permitted under Kenyan regulations.
Consequently, the partnership signals growing institutional interest in tokenizing traditional financial instruments within emerging markets. The NSE stands to gain access to Tether‘s liquidity and blockchain expertise, while Tether expands its footprint in Africa’s capital markets infrastructure.
