SpaceX-Nvidia AI Alliance Deepens, Says Goldberg

SpaceX deepens strategic Nvidia alliance beyond chips, using Vera Rubin for Earth and space AI.

  • Investor Larry Goldberg sees a deepening alliance between SpaceX and NVIDIA that goes far beyond chip purchases.
  • Nvidia-powered AI systems could support SpaceX’s ground facilities, Starmind satellites, and expanding computing network.
  • Goldberg points to TeraFab and Nvidia’s $500 billion AI funding plan as potential signs of a deeper partnership.
  • Elon Musk stated SpaceX will build exclusively on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin architecture for both Earth and space AI infrastructure.

Investor Larry Goldberg sees a potentially major shift underway between SpaceX and Nvidia, arguing their relationship could extend far beyond GPU purchases. In an X post, Goldberg said the two appear to be moving toward a far deeper relationship based on recent developments in orbital computing, terrestrial data centers, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Following SpaceX’s August 4 earnings call, Goldberg highlighted comments from Elon Musk indicating plans to use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin architecture for AI infrastructure on Earth and in space. “Going forward, we’ve decided to build exclusively on Nvidia, because we think the Vera Rubin architecture is the best architecture,” Musk said.

SpaceX is also working with Nvidia on the Starmind AI satellite payload, which would use Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs for data-center-level processing in orbit. “Clearly this is more than buying compute in the normal course but a decision to standardize the entire AI infrastructure stack,” Goldberg noted.

Meanwhile, Goldberg highlighted TeraFab as another piece of the picture, though Intel is the named partner. SpaceX and Tesla have committed $16.8 billion to the Texas complex for producing chips for edge inference and space-based data centers. Nvidia’s $500 billion AI financing initiative could also help fund major infrastructure projects, Goldberg argued, potentially supporting SpaceX’s ground and orbital expansion.
