Elon Musk claimed on Wednesday that unnamed Indian oligarchs are blocking Starlink’s entry into the country, alleging they protect a “monopolistic chokehold” on connectivity. Musk did not provide evidence but said on X, “you can guess who they are,” while adding that Starlink would enable affordable internet for those who lack it.
However, Starlink already secured a 20-year satellite license from India’s Department of Telecommunications in June 2025 and authorization from space regulator IN-SPACe the following month. The company still needs security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs and foreign-investment approval tied to its wholly foreign-owned structure, with spectrum assignment also outstanding, as reported by Bloomberg.
Consequently, India froze final approvals in June due to security concerns, but Starlink remains prepared. Vice president of business operations Lauren Dreyer stated, “We’re standing ready to serve India once India is ready,” adding that the network was built around the country’s security requirements.
Meanwhile, Starlink now forms the financial core of SpaceX, generating $11.4 billion of the company’s $18.7 billion in 2025 revenue—about 61%—and was the only division with an operating profit of roughly $4.4 billion. In the second quarter of 2026, Connectivity revenue rose 66% to $4.3 billion, with operating income of $1.66 billion, even as the company overall posted a net loss.
On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around SPCX stock stayed within bullish territory over the past 24 hours, with message volume at high levels. The stock currently trades at around $168, higher than its IPO price of $135 but below its all-time high of roughly $226 hit in June.
