Oracle Layoffs: India Faces New Job Cuts As AI Spending Grows

Oracle cuts thousands of US jobs, India roles uncertain, as massive restructuring costs reach $2.8B

  • Oracle cut thousands of US jobs on September 14, 2026, but has not confirmed whether India offices will face new reductions.
  • Unverified reports estimate roughly 3,000 India roles could be affected, following Oracle’s 21,000-job global cut in fiscal 2026.
  • The company’s restructuring costs have reached about $2.8 billion, even as it plans $90–$95 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure spending.

Oracle‘s latest layoff wave removed thousands of US jobs on September 14, 2026, while employees at the company’s India Development Centre remain uncertain about potential new cuts. The company has not confirmed any India-specific reductions tied to the 2026 wave.

However, India chatter has persisted since early September, when a Times of India report estimated Oracle could affect around 3,000 jobs in India. Oracle never confirmed that number, nor has it confirmed broader restructuring estimates of 7,000 to 10,000 positions globally.

The September 14 US cuts touch technical, engineering, sales, and support roles, including OCI security, enterprise engineering, Fusion, NetSuite sales, Oracle Health, HR technology, and data-centre compliance. Workers tied to Oracle’s Stargate operations in Abilene, Texas, also took a hit.

Meanwhile, a Reddit thread on r/employeesOfOracle reportedly drew more than 300 comments within hours, and thousands of Slack accounts apparently vanished, though neither claim has been independently verified. If cuts reach India, similar technical and professional teams could feel the impact.

Oracle employed roughly 141,000 people as of May 31, 2026, down from about 162,000 a year earlier after cutting 21,000 jobs during fiscal 2026. Restructuring costs have climbed by $700 million to about $2.8 billion.

Consequently, the layoffs coincide with record spending, as Oracle plans $90 billion to $95 billion this fiscal year on AI and cloud infrastructure. Safra Catz, Oracle’s CEO, said: “FY26 will be even better as our revenue growth rates will be dramatically higher.”

India already went through a major layoff round in March and April, with unverified reports citing up to 12,000 affected roles. Until Oracle confirms or denies an India-specific plan, employees are left with internal chatter instead of official statements.
