The suspect reportedly carried out cyberattacks since at least 2018. Investigators claim he identified weaknesses in the systems of multiple international companies. They say he broke into more than 5,000 accounts at a major global hosting provider, then created virtual machines—software-run computers—to mine cryptocurrency without permission.

According to the Ukrainian cyber police, this activity caused approximately $4.5 million in damages to the affected company. During raids at several locations, police seized computers, mobile phones, bank cards, and other electronic equipment.

Authorities said a forensic review showed the suspect managed several accounts on hacker forums. He reportedly used software tools for carrying out and controlling unauthorized crypto-mining, collecting data, and managing remote access to compromised systems. Police explained that crypto-mining typically requires powerful computer resources that generate new virtual coins, which were obtained through illegal use of company infrastructure.

Officials added that the man frequently changed his residence to avoid discovery. The investigation remains in progress as officers continue to gather and review evidence.
