Trump Media Revamps Digital Asset Strategy After $238M Loss

Trump Media's Q2 losses hit $238M amid Bitcoin volatility.

  • Trump Media reported a $238 million net loss in Q2, largely due to $190.4 million in unrealized losses on digital assets and securities.
  • The company plans to revamp its digital asset treasury strategy to manage volatility and improve balance sheet productivity.
  • Bitcoin holdings stood at 9,477.16 BTC as of June 30 but rose to about 14,139 BTC by July 31 after selling Bitcoin-related securities.
  • Trump Media warned that its yield-generating strategies, including lending and options, carry counterparty credit risk and potential asset loss.

Trump Media reported a $238 million net loss for the second quarter, largely due to $190.4 million in unrealized losses across its digital assets and equity securities. The company disclosed the results in its Q2 earnings release on Monday.

In response, Trump Media said it plans to revamp its digital asset treasury strategy to preserve long-term exposure while managing volatility. The company is already using options to generate premium income and deploying Bitcoin through lending and yield-generating arrangements, according to its Q2 filing.

Trump Media is the publicly traded company behind Truth Social and Truth+, and as of Feb. 25, a trust benefiting President Donald Trump held about 41.1% of its voting power, per the company’s latest annual report. Its Bitcoin holdings were little changed during Q2, with 9,477.16 BTC on June 30, down from 9,542.16 BTC at the end of the prior quarter.

However, Trump Media stepped up its direct Bitcoin exposure in July, selling $159.6 million in Bitcoin-related securities and using the proceeds to purchase Bitcoin. By July 31, the company held approximately 14,139 BTC, worth about $890.5 million at the time.

Trump Media also warned that its efforts to earn additional income from its Bitcoin carry counterparty credit risk and the potential loss of its assets. Some counterparties may not be rated by major credit agencies and could default during market downturns, while unsecured arrangements could leave the company unable to recover its Bitcoin.
