Stocks Rise as Cooling Oil and Yields Lift Sentiment Before Nvidia Earnings

U.S. stocks rose Tuesday as cooling oil and bond yields lifted sentiment ahead of Nvidia and Marvell earnings.

  • Treasury yields fell sharply, with the 10-year note dropping over 7 basis points to 4.63%
  • Major U.S. stock indexes closed higher, led by the Nasdaq 100 gaining 0.6%
  • Oil prices retreated below $90, easing inflation fears and boosting market sentiment
  • Investors awaited earnings from NVIDIA and Marvell Technologies, with Nvidia revenue expected to nearly double

U.S. stock markets rose Tuesday as cooling oil prices and declining bond yields lifted investor sentiment ahead of key earnings from chipmakers Nvidia and Marvell Technologies. The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield dropped more than seven basis points to 4.63%, while Brent crude settled below $90 per barrel amid renewed hopes for energy transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

The S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.6%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.3%. The small-cap Russell 2000 rose 0.5%, while semiconductor ETFs VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) and iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) each gained about 1.7%, tracking pre-earnings strength in Micron Tech and Nvidia.

Market improvement followed reports that the U.S. will redeploy diplomats to Middle Eastern embassies, easing regional conflict fears. “Nvidia is operating on all cylinders, and they’re doing absolutely everything correctly at this point,” said Mark Malek of Siebert Financial. Analysts estimate Nvidia’s revenue will reach $92.2 billion in the quarter ending July, nearly double from a year ago.

Meanwhile, Moderna shares surged on renewed optimism for its cancer vaccine program after Wolfe Research projected $9.2 billion in peak sales. Paramount Skydance attracted buyer interest for entertainment assets amid antitrust litigation over a proposed takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. SpaceX completed its final planned Starlink mission from Florida and plans to invest $100 billion in a new launch facility.

Lululemon Athletica faces potential guidance cuts, UBS warned, while OpenAI’s Jalapeno chips reportedly outperformed Nvidia’s current lineup during testing, according to SemiAnalysis. Investors now turn to the personal consumption expenditure price index reading for July, due Wednesday.
