- Palantir CEO Alex Karp criticized rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic for lacking intellectual property protection for clients.
- Karp stated that warfighters and enterprises have serious trust issues with “frontier labs” over data control and model ownership.
- The company’s new partnership with NVIDIA aims to deliver secure, sovereign AI where customers retain control over their data, models, and “alpha.”
In a Wednesday CNBC interview, Palantir Technologies Inc. CEO Alex Karp launched a sharp critique of major AI developers while promoting his company’s new alliance with Nvidia Corp.. He argued that frontier AI model developers OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly lack measures to protect client intellectual property. Karp stated, “The basic view of enterprises in this country… I’m going to basically chillax and waste my time with tokens, I’m going to get no value and they’re going to get my IP.”
He also touted Palantir‘s offerings for warfighters and U.S. allies worldwide, claiming they should access the best technology. Consequently, Karp emphasized that these clients have serious trust issues with the frontier AI labs. He based these comments on what has already been reported according to public information.
Karp added that his alignment with Nvidia is driven by customer demand for control over compute, models, and data. “They want to know they own the means of production and it’s not being transferred to someone else,” he said. The new platform integrates Nvidia’s Nemotron models into a secure, sovereign AI operating system.
This system allows government agencies to customize models while retaining ownership of the resulting weights. Meanwhile, Palantir shares were up more than 3% in pre-market trade Wednesday, while Nvidia shares were down about 2%. Karp concluded that trust needs to be rebuilt, with questions about data ownership and security requiring clear answers.
