New Coldcard attack wave steals 389 Bitcoin; Thorn warns

Galaxy research head Alex Thorn warned Monday of a fourth wave of coordinated thefts targeting Coldcard hardware wallet users, with 218 transactions sweeping 388.9 Bitcoin (approximately $23.3 million) from 462 potential victim addresses. The attacks arrive just days after the first wave on Thursday, according to Thorn’s flagged X post detailing the activity.

Thorn reported that the sweep rate averaged 13.8 per block, roughly 45 times the rate observed in a pre-incident control window. Most transfers created a fresh destination for each victim rather than converging on a central collection wallet. Consequently, unconfirmed transactions may give some Coldcard users a narrow opportunity to salvage their funds before the thefts finalize. Meanwhile, Galaxy’s research head continues monitoring the ongoing threat to affected Bitcoin holders.
