- Kalshi is accused of using an AI-generated ad that stole a YouTube video from creator Elliot Choy and altered his appearance to a white man.
- The prediction market platform also faces backlash over another AI ad branded “insane” and “out of touch,” depicting gambling on egg prices.
- Separately, Kalshi denied wash trading allegations after the Wall Street Journal reported $5 billion in uniform trades on its platform.
Content creator Elliot Choy shared a screenshot of Kalshi’s AI-generated advert alongside his original New York apartment video. He said, “I guess Kalshi saw this and thought they should steal my video, turn me into a white dude, and run it as an ad.”
NPR correspondent Bobby Allyn confirmed the advert was real and that Kalshi is reviewing its relationship with its marketing agency. The firm told Allyn it was an old advert and no longer uses AI-generated ads, though the spot was promoted this week.
Meanwhile, another AI-generated Kalshi ad made in Pixar style depicts a couple’s financial trouble, with one partner gambling egg prices. Users have described it as “cringe,” “out of touch,” and “insane.” One user pointed out that “this ad is just showing gambling addiction.”
Consequently, Kalshi has faced heightened scrutiny this week. The Wall Street Journal found $5 billion in uniform $5,500 trades across ETH perpetual volume in one month, raising wash trading concerns. Kalshi denied the allegations, but users began speculating that the platform paid unrelated X accounts to share its denial. Others spotted what appeared to be inflated user metrics.
