SpaceX (SPCX) CEO Elon Musk announced this weekend that Starlink V3 satellites, set to launch on Starship, will provide an order of magnitude more capability than the V2 satellites currently deployed on Falcon. In a post on X, Musk explained the upgraded system will exceed 100 times the bandwidth of the current V2 constellation.
Consequently, Musk projected that SpaceX communications revenue could surpass $200 billion per year, even if revenue per gigabit drops by 10X. He clarified that some of his statements are aspirational, but the V3 performance claims are “not speculative.”
Meanwhile, ARK Investment Management’s Cathie Wood described the leap from V2 to V3 bandwidth as “astonishing” in a separate post on X. On Friday, ARK purchased an additional 114,815 shares of SpaceX, which now ranks as its second-largest holding at roughly $300 million.
The first Starship V3 test flight occurred from SpaceX’s Texas facility, with Flight 13 deploying the initial next-generation Starlink V3 satellites in July. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained bullish amid high message volumes, with users noting that buyers continue absorbing selling pressure.
Shares of SPCX traded at $134.65 in overnight trading, recovering toward the IPO price after a sharp decline since the June launch.
