Venture capital (VC) firm Cosimo Ventures has made three late seed round investments in Gecko Governance, Lingar and Oneiro.

No time for “lower quality projects”

The funding was via its “evergreen” tokenised VC fund, Cosimo X.

Gecko is a blockchain-based financial software solution for regulatory and compliance requirements.

Oneiro is the developer of ndau – the “world’s first, buoyant digital asset”.

Lingar is not related to fintech but offers an augmented reality (AR) mobile application and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform for museums, cultural institutions, tours and special venues.

Ciarán Hynes, managing partner of Cosimo Ventures, has some choice words: “After an initial high-volume wave of lower quality projects in the blockchain and cryptocurrency spaces, companies like Lingar, Oneiro and Gecko are building products from the lessons learned in years prior. In addition to seed investments we will provide hands-on advisory and management services to help these disruptive early stage companies succeed.”

In terms of specifics, Cosimo X will provide $1.5 million to Oneiro. This follows Cosimo Ventures’ $3 million investment in Oneiro in February 2018.

The investment in Gecko is undisclosed and follows earlier seed stage funding provided by Cosimo Ventures in January 2018. Lingar’s funding is also not disclosed.

Hynes adds: “The tokenised model of Cosimo X allows investors to gain exposure to promising early-stage companies like Oneiro, Lingar, and Gecko, with the benefits of increased liquidity and a lower barrier to entry.”

Cosimo X focuses on early stage deep tech companies spanning industries such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), AR/VR, internet of things (IoT), and cybersecurity.

Cosimo Ventures has offices in Boston, New York, and Dublin.
