BPX, a startup working on trading tokenized securities, has received multiple authorizations from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The company plans to join the UK’s Digital Securities Sandbox (DSS) as part of its efforts to expand in the evolving digital asset market.
The company advanced past the first gate of the DSS process, according to official updates. Only ten entrants passed this stage, and among them, Euroclear was the only large established firm. BPX still needs to pass a second phase before it can start live trading.
BPX focuses on enabling trading of hard-to-access assets such as infrastructure and real estate investment funds. The company also wants to make these alternative assets usable as collateral for lending, providing more options for institutional investors.
The FCA approvals cover BPX’s operations as a Multilateral Trading Facility (a regulated platform for multiple buyers and sellers), an Alternative Investment Fund Manager (overseeing non-traditional funds), a Cryptoasset Exchange, and a Custodian Wallet Provider. Co-CEO Dr. Robert Barnes said in a statement: “Our vision is a marketplace of best practice, modernised for institutions, offering access through a single connection to a broader range of hard-to-access alternative assets, such as infrastructure and real estate investment funds, whether traditional or tokenised—available for issuance, trading, and use as collateral.”
Dr. Barnes brings nearly a decade of experience from the London Stock Exchange Group, where he headed securities trading and was CEO of Turquoise. He previously led UBS MTF and spent almost 20 years at the bank. Co-CEO Ali Celiker, who specializes in fixed income, has served for 15 years as CEO of British Pearl, a company allowing fractional real estate investment.
