- BlackRock named its spot Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), as a top investment theme for 2025 alongside Treasury bills and large US tech stocks.
- IBIT has received over $25 billion in net inflows this year, ranking sixth among ETFs despite negative returns in 2025.
- The ETF’s total inflows since launch have reached $62.5 billion, significantly surpassing its closest competitor, Fidelity’s Bitcoin fund.
- BlackRock also filed for a Bitcoin Premium Income ETF and an iShares Staked Ethereum ETF following the success of its existing products.
- Its iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) attracted more than $9 billion in inflows during 2025, totaling nearly $12.7 billion.
BlackRock has identified its spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), as one of its top three investment themes for 2025. Alongside ETFs tracking Treasury bills and the largest US tech companies—Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, NVIDIA, and Tesla—IBIT stands out despite Bitcoin’s recent price decline. The asset manager emphasized these themes to guide investment focus for the year.
IBIT has accumulated more than $25 billion in net inflows in 2025, ranking it sixth among all ETFs by inflows, according to data from Eric Balchunas. This figure is notable given the Bitcoin spot ETF has posted negative returns so far in 2025. The fund’s total inflows since launch now exceed $62.5 billion, surpassing its closest rival, the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), by over five times, as detailed by Farside Investors.
Nate Geraci, President of NovaDius Wealth Management, stated on X that BlackRock’s emphasis on IBIT indicates confidence despite Bitcoin’s 30% decline from its October high. Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas added on X, “if the ETF can do $25 billion in a bad year, imagine the flow potential in a good year.”
In September, BlackRock filed to register a Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, designed to sell covered call options on Bitcoin futures to generate yield from premiums. This follows their moves to expand cryptocurrency-focused ETF offerings.
For Ethereum, BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) attracted over $9.1 billion in inflows in 2025, raising its total to nearly $12.7 billion. In November, the company filed for the iShares Staked Ethereum ETF, which will allow investors to benefit from Ethereum staking rewards. This complement to ETHA aligns with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) more flexible approach toward crypto ETFs.
Unlike some asset managers, BlackRock has not pursued altcoin ETFs such as those for Litecoin (LTC), Solana (SOL), or XRP (XRP), which have been launched by others in recent months.
