Scott Free Productions, the production company behind House of Gucci and Blade Runner 2049, has attached its name to an adaptation of the book The Infinite Machine about the founding of the Ethereum network.
According to Deadline , Shyam Madiraju is in charge of writing and directing, and director Ridley Scott will produce alongside fellow directors Scott Free, Tom Moran and Vera Meyer.
“I can’t imagine a better team to turn the compelling story of the people behind the most revolutionary technology since the internet into a feature film that will capture the hearts of our generation,” Russo said.
– Camila Russo, Author, The Infinite Machine
The Infinite Machine, published in the summer of 2020, was the first of three books chronicling Ethereum’s journey from the brain of teenager Vitalik Buterin to the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
Matthew Leising’s 2020 “Out of the Ether” similarly covered the topic, while explaining a massive hack of a decentralized venture capital fund into Ethereum that threatened to destroy the network in its early days.
Laura Shin’s “The Cryptopian,” published this year, is the most recent exploration of the motivations and actions of Ethereum’s founders.
The film version of the movie, assuming it gets screened, is in good hands.
Scott Free Productions has been a major player in Hollywood since 1995, producing films directed by Ridley Scott such as Alien: Covenant and The Martian, as well as the recently released Death on the Nile, and TV series such as The Good Fight. Scott himself has been nominated for four Oscars ,three as a director and one as a producer.
