YGG Expands Beyond Gaming with Base Network Launch
Yield Guild Games (YGG) announced today the launch of its Onchain Guilds platform on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network.
The platform aims to transform how digital communities build and verify their reputations through blockchain technology.
This development marks a significant expansion beyond YGG’s initial gaming focus, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines.
Philippines Leads Web3 Gaming Adoption
The Philippines has maintained its position as the world’s most engaged Web3 gaming market for three consecutive years.
Research from ConsenSys indicates a 96% crypto awareness rate in the country, with YGG Pilipinas boasting 1.2 million members across social platforms.
For many Filipinos earning between $3,000 and $12,000 annually, Web3 gaming represents a substantial economic opportunity.
Platform Features and Implementation
YGG founder Gabby Dizon explained in an exclusive interview with Decrypt: "We’ve always had guild communities as part of YGG since day one. First we started with Axie [with] the scholarship program, then we expanded to other games and added questing and reputation on top of that."
The platform functions similarly to a blockchain-verified combination of LinkedIn and Discord, allowing users to maintain verifiable records of their achievements.
"The reputation is onchain for everyone to see," Dizon noted. "It’s inscribed in your wallet, so you own it, not a social network or any other platform."
Base Network Integration
Base, developed using the Optimism Stack, offers enhanced transaction speed and reduced costs while maintaining Ethereum’s security features.
The Layer-2 solution enables more efficient deployment of decentralized applications and reduces user interaction costs with the Ethereum ecosystem.
Future Development Plans
YGG plans to implement staking rewards for active Guild Advancement Program participants.
The organization aims to introduce broader participation mechanisms tied to casual gaming by early 2025.
Through its Future of Work division, YGG is exploring applications beyond gaming, including opportunities for freelancers and AI data labeling teams.
Dizon predicts increased blockchain adoption, stating: "People are starting to do things like data labeling for AI companies, contributing data for deep end networks that will allow them to earn money. I think that a lot of the transactions online will eventually move onchain."
The launch of Onchain Guilds represents YGG’s evolution from a gaming-focused platform to a broader Web3 community infrastructure provider.
