  • Tron blockchain to introduce free USDT transactions, eliminating gas fees previously reaching $9.
  • Initiative announced by Tron founder Justin Sun, implementation expected within a week.
  • JustLend DAO will coordinate with teams and wallets to support the gas-free feature.
  • Users won’t need TRX tokens for USDT transactions on Tron network.
  • Move aims to restore Tron’s position as a cost-efficient blockchain for stablecoin transfers.

The Tron blockchain is set to eliminate transaction fees for USDT transfers, marking a significant shift in its fee structure following a period of escalating costs that saw gas fees surge beyond $9 in late 2023.

Justin Sun, founder of Tron, revealed on X that the platform will launch its Gas Free feature within the next week, enabling users to conduct USDT transactions without requiring TRX tokens for gas payments.

The initiative comes at a crucial time for the network, which previously held the position as the most cost-effective blockchain for USDT transfers. Gas fees, which are transaction costs paid to network validators, had become a growing concern for users, particularly as they reached unprecedented levels in recent months.

JustLend, the official lending platform on Tron operating as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), will serve as the primary contact point for teams and wallet providers interested in implementing the gas-free feature. This structure ensures a decentralized approach to the initiative’s rollout.

The removal of gas fees represents a strategic move to enhance Tron’s competitive position in the stablecoin market, where transaction costs play a crucial role in user adoption. USDT, issued by Tether, remains the largest stablecoin by market capitalization, with significant transaction volume occurring on the Tron network.
