Theta EdgeCloud Unleashes AI Agentic Tools for Blockchain Developers

Theta EdgeCloud Launches Agentic AI Tools Suite for Blockchain Developers with External API Access and Model Context Protocol Support

  • Theta EdgeCloud launches new Agentic AI tools suite for developers building on Theta blockchain, enabling chatbots to access external APIs and perform complex tasks.
  • The suite includes custom tools that can perform GET, POST, and PUT requests to external services, plus built-in Web Search and Text-to-SQL capabilities.
  • These tools represent a step toward supporting Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open API standard for AI agents to securely connect with external tools and data sources.

Theta has deployed a comprehensive suite of Agentic AI tools for its EdgeCloud platform, marking a significant advancement in blockchain-powered Artificial Intelligence capabilities. The new toolset enables developers to create AI applications with enhanced functionality, positioning EdgeCloud to become a leading decentralized cloud solution for AI and media applications.

The newly released tools extend beyond basic text generation, allowing large language models (LLMs) to interact with external systems dynamically. By providing connections to external APIs, databases, and software tools, these models can now perform real-time data retrieval, execute code, run complex calculations, and generate images—significantly expanding their practical applications.

At the core of this release is the “Agentic Tools” feature for EdgeCloud’s RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) chatbot product. This functionality enables developers to equip their chatbots with capabilities including web searches, API interactions, code execution, and document manipulation. The result is more sophisticated AI assistants that can reason through complex tasks and adapt dynamically to user requirements.

The initial release supports user-defined “Custom Tools” that allow developers to specify external API endpoints, determine when these APIs should be triggered, and configure necessary parameters based on conversation context. Additionally, Theta EdgeCloud has included built-in tools like “Web Search” and “Text-to-SQL,” providing immediate utility for various applications.

Setting up these Agentic Tools is straightforward. Users can navigate to their chatbot’s details page, click on the “Agentic Tools” tab, and add either custom tools or enable the built-in options. The platform supports various request methods, including GET, POST, and PUT, offering flexibility for different API interactions.

In a practical example demonstrated by Theta, developers can configure a custom tool to access BlueSky‘s public API to retrieve trending topics. When users ask the chatbot about current trends on BlueSky, the tool automatically calls the API and delivers a summarized response with clickable links.

More advanced implementations showcase how these tools can deploy Jupyter notebooks within Theta EdgeCloud through natural language commands. The chatbot handles the technical aspects behind the scenes and returns useful information such as hardware specifications and access links. Similar functionality extends to updating existing Jupyter notebook deployments using PUT requests.

The Web Search tool enables chatbots to search the internet for current information, while the Text-to-SQL feature converts natural language questions into database queries, expanding analytical capabilities.

Looking forward, Theta views these tools as an initial step toward supporting Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open API protocol designed to standardize how AI agents access external tools and services. The company describes MCP as “a USB-C port for AI applications,” providing a universal connection standard for AI models to interface with various data sources and tools.

Future developments may include deeper MCP integration with the EdgeCloud platform, potentially creating an MCP marketplace where users can deploy MCP servers directly to the network. This ecosystem could enable Edge Node operators to earn tokens by running MCP servers for other users, creating new economic opportunities within the THETA Network.
