Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy (MSTR), issued a series of preferred stock in 2025 that raised approximately $5.6 billion. This move represented 12% of all U.S. IPO activity for both preferred and common stock so far this year, according to Strategy.
The new preferred shares, trading under tickers STRK, STRF, STRD, and STRC, have helped build a diversified financial base for the company. Among these, STRF led with a 31% lifetime return, STRK delivered 19%, STRC posted 8%, and STRD lagged with a 6% loss.
With these offerings, Strategy expanded its role as a leading bitcoin proxy, currently holding 632,457 BTC as of August 2025. The firm’s enterprise value, when compared to its net asset value (NAV) in bitcoin, stood at 1.60. NAV is calculated by dividing enterprise value—including preferred stock and convertible debt—by the value of the company’s bitcoin holdings.
Over the past month, Strategy‘s stock price fell more than 25% from its July peak. Year-to-date, MSTR shares are up 13%, but this lags bitcoin’s 18% appreciation for 2025, reflecting the market’s view of the company’s bitcoin leverage and debt structure.
Other significant IPOs in 2025 include Bullish (BLSH) and Circle (CRCL), which joined Strategy in pushing total U.S. IPO volume to $47.6 billion. Analysts highlight that the surge reflects increased investor risk-taking and ongoing interest in crypto-linked companies and innovations.
Preferred stocks are a type of ownership in a company where investors get priority on dividends, often attracting those seeking steady returns. The varied performance among Strategy‘s preferred offerings shows differing investor sentiment toward each issue.
