Soldier used military secrets for $150K crypto bets.

Israeli soldier charged for using military secrets to bet on conflict via prediction market.

  • An Israeli reserve soldier and a civilian accomplice face charges for allegedly using military secrets to bet on security operations via the prediction market Polymarket.
  • The indictment, though flawed according to the soldier’s lawyer, still includes accusations of using confidential information without authorization.
  • The pair may be connected to an account that won over $150,000 by accurately predicting Israeli strikes on Iran in 2025.
  • This case is the latest in a series of insider trading concerns on the platform, following suspicious bets on Venezuela and the Nobel Peace Prize.

An Israeli reserve soldier and a civilian face prosecution for allegedly using classified military intelligence to place bets on Polymarket. Israel’s Shin Bet security agency announced the charges on February 12, 2026, accusing the pair of utilizing secrets related to national security operations. The indictment includes various security offences alongside bribery and obstruction claims.

The soldier’s lawyer told Bloomberg the case is deeply flawed, noting the main national security harm charge was dropped. However, authorities maintain the two used confidential documents accessed via the soldier’s military role without permission. It remains unclear which specific markets they bet on or if they profited.

Suspicions link the accused to the Polymarket account “ricosuave666,” which reportedly made over $150,000 betting on Israel-Iran strikes. This account got every prediction correct during a 12-day conflict in 2025, prompting an official investigation. A similar past case saw an Israeli soldier jailed for 27 months for leaking secrets to gain online clout.

This incident highlights ongoing insider trading concerns on decentralized prediction markets. Previous controversies involved a $437,000 profit from bets on Venezuela’s former president and suspicious activity around the Nobel Peace Prize announcement. After the FBI raided the home of Polymarket’s CEO, a company spokesperson emphasized its neutral, fee-free role as a public data good.
