- Adult site Pornhub has stopped accepting Tether (USDT) for model payouts and switched to Circle’s USDC stablecoin.
- The platform cited USDC’s regulatory compliance and reliability, calling it a “more secure option.”
- This change reverses a 2020 decision where Pornhub adopted USDT after Paypal cut ties with the site.
- The shift follows another recent high-profile stablecoin swap involving the hacked Drift Protocol.
Pornhub has abruptly stopped accepting Tether (USDT) for paying its content creators and has switched exclusively to USDC, according to an email screenshot shared by an OnlyFans model. The adult entertainment platform claims the move makes payouts “more reliable” and cited USDC’s status as a fully-backed, MiCA-compliant stablecoin. Its official help page now lists USDC alongside other methods like Paxum and Verge.
This decision reverses a pivotal 2020 integration where Pornhub made USDT its payout choice after PayPal severed ties. The initial partnership involved using Justin Sun‘s TronLink wallet, a detail now absent from the platform’s program page. Consequently, models accustomed to receiving USDT must now adjust to the new USDC payment infrastructure.
Meanwhile, a contrasting stablecoin swap occurred earlier this month when Tether provided a $127.5 million bailout to the hacked Drift Protocol. That deal required Drift to transition its settlement asset from USDC to USDT. The hack, likely executed by North Korean-linked actors, drained approximately $285 million from the protocol.
Protos has contacted both Pornhub and Tether for comment on this change in payment policy.
