OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5.2, Hires New CRO as Enterprise Use Soars

OpenAI Unveils Advanced Model Enhancing Reasoning and Coding to Rival Google’s Gemini 3

  • OpenAI launched GPT-5.2 with improved speed and advanced capabilities for paid ChatGPT users.
  • Competition is rising as Google’s Gemini 3 gains positive reviews for reasoning and coding tasks.
  • Denise Dresser, former Slack CEO, joined OpenAI as chief revenue officer to boost enterprise efforts.
  • Enterprise use of ChatGPT has grown significantly, with more accounts and a marked increase in productivity.
  • Retail investor sentiment for OpenAI remains highly optimistic following the announcement.

OpenAI introduced GPT-5.2 on Thursday, providing paid ChatGPT users with a faster, more advanced language model. The update focuses on complex professional tasks, promising stronger performance in coding, math, and scientific problem-solving. The rollout includes three GPT-5.2 variants, aiming to help users complete multi-step workflows such as building spreadsheets, creating presentations, and debugging complex code.

The launch follows increased competition for OpenAI, particularly after Google’s Gemini 3 received strong feedback for its reasoning and coding abilities and quickly ranked high on industry leaderboards. This competitive pressure led OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to push development teams for rapid advancement, as stated in internal communications described as a “code red.” The release of GPT-5.2 comes only months after its predecessors, GPT-5 and GPT-5.1, both of which faced strong challenges from rival firms.

To strengthen its enterprise business, OpenAI recently hired Denise Dresser — previously CEO of Slack and a longtime executive at Salesforce — as chief revenue officer. This move is part of a broader strategy to grow the company’s presence among corporate clients and prepare for over $1.4 trillion in planned infrastructure investment, as Dresser explained in a recent statement about leading OpenAI’s next phase of enterprise growth.

Usage of ChatGPT in business settings has risen sharply, according to OpenAI’s latest State of Enterprise AI report. Weekly interactions with ChatGPT Enterprise have grown nearly eightfold over the past year, while users now send about 30% more messages. Business adoption of specialized tools like Projects and Custom GPTs has increased 19 times. OpenAI now supports more than seven million work accounts, with enterprise seat numbers jumping nearly nine times since the start of 2024. Most surveyed employees reported that AI saved them 40–60 minutes daily, and some frequent users claimed savings of over 10 hours every week.

On the retail side, sentiment for OpenAI was described as “extremely bullish” on Stocktwits, based on high message volumes. One user commented, “Been waiting for this updated model! Lets go!!” Another noted that “each time OpenAI announces a new model, markets tend to surge, Alphabet shares often slip, and companies linked to the company’s massive $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan appear relieved.” Data on Stocktwits reflects high engagement and positive expectations for the new model’s rollout.
