- NVIDIA launched the Open Secure AI Alliance with nearly 40 technology and Cybersecurity companies to develop open-source defenses against AI-powered cyberattacks.
- Meta Platforms co-signed CEO Jensen Huang’s letter endorsing open-weight AI models but was not listed among the coalition’s founding members.
- The coalition was partly inspired by a cyberattack on Hugging Face, where closed AI systems struggled to distinguish investigators from attackers.
Nvidia unveiled the Open Secure AI Alliance on Monday, bringing together nearly 40 technology and cybersecurity firms to jointly develop open-source tools that help organizations defend against AI-powered cyberattacks. The announcement followed CEO Jensen Huang’s first-ever post on X, where he publicly endorsed open-weight AI models.
Meta Platforms co-signed that letter but did not appear in the alliance’s list of founding members. The coalition includes Microsoft, IBM, SpaceX, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Cloudflare, Dell, HPE, Cisco, Salesforce, SAP, and Adobe, alongside AI startups and research organizations.
Nvidia said the alliance was inspired in part by a recent cyberattack on Hugging Face, during which closed AI systems struggled to distinguish legitimate security investigators from attackers. Hugging Face instead relied on the open-weight GLM 5.2 model running on its own infrastructure to review more than 17,000 actions during the investigation.
Each founding member is contributing existing open-source technology aimed at securing AI systems, identity management, or vulnerability detection. HPE is adding a zero-trust identity framework, while IBM and Red Hat provide Lightwell for secure open-source supply chains. Microsoft is contributing MDASH, a framework that coordinates multiple AI agents to discover and validate software vulnerabilities.
Hugging Face is contributing Safetensors, a secure format for storing AI model weights. SpaceX is open-sourcing its Grok Build AI coding agent and plans to release model weights for its Grok family of models. CNBC’s Jim Cramer stated that the market now has a “New Nvidia Central Bank narrative,” suggesting developments around the AI chipmaker are competing with traditional macro drivers for investor attention.
