- The Micron stock sell-off erased roughly 30% of the chipmaker’s value after peer SK Hynix disappointed.
- Micron‘s own fiscal Q3 revenue jumped 345% to a record $41.5 billion, beating expectations.
- Long-term customer agreements worth near $100 billion signal structural demand for memory chips.
- Micron trades at a P/E under 17, significantly below the tech sector average of 39.
The Micron stock sell-off has erased roughly 30% of the chipmaker’s value over the past month, prompting investors to question the Micron stock forecast. The drop followed disappointing results from memory peer SK Hynix, even though Micron’s own quarter came in well above expectations.
However, the Micron stock sell-off seems tied more to a rival’s earnings miss than to any real crack in Micron AI demand. SK Hynix shares plunged after its second-quarter results fell short of lofty Wall Street expectations, dragging Micron down with it.
Meanwhile, Micron’s fiscal third quarter tells a starkly different story, with revenue jumping 345% to a record $41.5 billion. Earnings per share climbed more than 1,200% to $25.11, while gross margin moved up to 83%.
Sixteen strategic customer agreements now run through 2030, carrying a combined minimum revenue commitment near $100 billion. Management explained these long-term deals would “significantly enhance the durability and predictability of Micron’s strong financial performance.”
CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said on the earnings call: “We expect tight conditions to persist beyond calendar 2027 as a result of AI-driven demand across all segments coupled with structural supply constraints.” Consequently, Micron’s trailing price-to-earnings ratio sits below 17 against a tech sector average closer to 39.
For investors debating a Micron stock buy or sell call, the sell-off reads more like an overreaction than a warning sign. The gap between the strong numbers and the negative sentiment is what makes the Micron stock forecast look better than the recent chart suggests.
