Mastercard launched the Global Money Platform with BVNK on Thursday, a modular infrastructure layer that lets businesses embed multi-currency accounts holding fiat and stablecoins side by side. The platform follows Mastercard’s roughly $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK in August and pairs the payments giant’s network with BVNK’s stablecoin infrastructure.
A global money account sits at the center, enabling conversion between fiat and stablecoins through a single API. Banks, fintechs and enterprises can embed these accounts into their products, gaining real-time conversion, stablecoin-linked cards and local bank payouts.
The platform connects to Mastercard Move, allowing stablecoin-based payments to recipients’ bank accounts across more than 40 currencies and 200-plus countries by 2027. Consequently, users can spend stablecoin balances across Mastercard’s merchant network, with card issuing in more than 130 countries.
Nuvei and Marqeta are among the first integrators, alongside Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech. “The future of commerce will be built on interoperability across multiple forms of money,” said Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s EVP for blockchain and digital assets.
He called the launch a step toward programmable and agentic commerce, where AI agents transact autonomously. Mastercard has already moved to enable AI-agent payments with Coinbase and Ripple and secured a New York BitLicense covering stablecoins.
The company plans to add support for agentic commerce and tokenized deposits to the Global Money Platform down the line. The modular toolkit spans sending, receiving, converting, storing, spending and earning, letting customers start with the pieces they need and expand over time.
