Lionel Messi’s PSG Deal Includes Payment In Cryptocurrency

Socios.com has announced that Lionel Messi has agreed to accept some parts of his payment in the PSG fan token. Fan token was included in Messi’s PSG contract and they are provided by Socios.com, a partner of sports and esports organization PSG.

The amount of token that was offered to Lionel Messi remains undisclosed at the moment. however, it has been stated that it was included in the Bumper deal that was agreed between Messi and Paris St Germain.

Socios.com PSG’s partner is providing the crypto fan tokens involved in the signing agreement. Socios is an app for football fans where users can acquire voting rights to influence the clubs they support by acquiring club-specific fan tokens, PSG is one of such tokens on Socios.com. other fan tokens that are available include Juventus, Barcelona Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City. They announced via their Twitter handle that Messi is the first player in the world to receive a crypto fan token as part of a high-profile signing agreement.

Including PSG fan tokens in the signing deal connects Messi with Million of Paris Saint-Germain fans worldwide. It offers the club an avenue to diversify its income streams. PSG partnered with Socios.com in 2018 and the two have been working together to engage football fans through fan tokens. Marc Armstrong, Chief Partnership Officer of PSG said:

“fully embracing Socios.com and $PSG fan token has proved a massive success for the club. We have been able to engage with a new global audience, creating a significant digital revenue stream.”

The latest Signing increased the hype around the PSG tokens and led to a surge in interest from fans. The tokens trading volume exceeded $1.2 billion in the days preceding the move. The price of PSG rallied 83.3 percent in the last seven days, and Socios.com expects further success in days following the deal. Both PSG and Socios are yet to reveal how much of the crypto fan token was offered to Messi. PSG only referred to it as a large number.

PSG token’s price almost doubled and hit a price of $58.04 after Messi’s public address. The token later witnessed a 6 percent correction after the former Barcelona player finalized his contract. Messi’s connection to crypto started last week when he launched his first non-fungible token NFT collection.
