Hedera Deprecates Hiero Local Node for Solo

Ledger developers must transition from Local Node to Solo within six months.

  • Hiero Local Node is being deprecated, with a 6-month transition window ending September 2026.
  • Developers using unpinned configurations must act before May 15, 2026, to avoid breakage when Consensus Node Release 74 introduces Blockstream.
  • Solo is the designated replacement tool for local Hedera development and testing, currently in alpha.

The hierarchical Ledger development community faces a significant shift as Hedera announces the deprecation of its Local Node tool, mandating a migration to the new Solo platform over a six-month period ending in September 2026. This change is driven by fundamental architectural updates in the Hedera network that the legacy tool cannot support. Consequently, developers relying on Local Node for local testing or CI workflows must now plan their transition.

Specifically, developers using unpinned Consensus Node versions face imminent disruption. According to the official Hedera blog, these setups will break when Consensus Node Release 74 is tagged around May 15, 2026, as Blockstream becomes the default output format. Meanwhile, those with pinned versions can continue temporarily but will lose updates and support after the deprecation concludes. The path forward is Solo, which the team is actively developing to replace local Hedera development and testing.

During the transition, Local Node will operate in a maintained Recordstream mode, pinned to pre-Blockstream behavior. However, it will not reflect the current state of testnet or mainnet, as the network evolves with new features like Block Nodes, Block Stream, and TSS. Therefore, developers are advised to assess their workflows and begin planning their migration timeline during this window.

The replacement tool, Solo, is currently in alpha and available for early testing for developers with specific hardware requirements, including at least 12 GB of RAM and 6 CPU cores. The team encourages feedback on feature gaps via the Solo GitHub repository. For broader support, developers can join the Hedera Discord for community discussion.
