- A user called “CyberLeek” leaked GTA VI gameplay footage to promote a crypto token called $CYBERLEEK.
- The token’s market cap surged nearly 5,800% to $3.46 million within an hour before falling to $1.5 million.
- CyberLeek claims the leaks fund a “secret project” aimed at combating anti-consumer practices in the video game industry.
An X user known as CyberLeek posted leaked GTA VI gameplay footage yesterday, using the content to pump their cryptocurrency token $CYBERLEEK. The posts included details about the game’s map and free-roam footage, now removed from X following a copyright strike from Rockstar Games.
CyberLeek created the token to raise funds for a “secret project,” stating, “Let it be absolutely clear: this is not a cash grab.” They claim the project cannot be revealed, as “showing the cards to the big corporations would only give them time to build their defenses.”
According to CyberLeek’s website, the leaks stem from grievances with anti-consumer practices like digital pre-orders and paywalled single-player content. The user has threatened to leak more footage unless Rockstar Games meets their demands.
GTA VI will be the first major game to release without a disc, with its physical release containing only a redeemable code. This decision, alongside Sony’s move to stop producing game discs, has led to lawsuits and uproar from gamers advocating for physical media and game preservation.
