Alphabet Inc. recently introduced Disco, an experimental web browser designed to reduce the clutter of multiple open tabs by transforming them into AI-generated dashboards. Launched under the Google Labs division, Disco is initially accessible to macOS users via a waitlist at labs.google/disco/. The browser uses the GenTabs feature, which employs the Gemini 3 Artificial Intelligence model to compile related tabs, such as those for flights, hotels, and local reviews, into one dynamic, interactive app.
Disco aims to shift web browsing from a passive experience to an active, AI-curated process. In demonstrations, users researching trips see the AI generate unified maps, itineraries, and budget checklists by extracting information from multiple sites. The system keeps live connections to source websites, enabling real-time actions like booking accommodations directly through the dashboard.
Gemini 3 is a large language model that includes a “Deep Think” mode, enabling it to handle complex, multi-step tasks more accurately than previous AI models. Examples include synthesizing meal plans or creating 3D models of the solar system for educational use.
Currently, Disco is an experimental Sandbox rather than a Chrome replacement. Google’s careful rollout allows testing new features—such as replacing traditional URL bars with conversational sidebars—without affecting Chrome’s dominant user base. The company noted that the most successful ideas from Disco may eventually integrate into broader Google products.
While the new browser offers efficiency, it raises concerns about lowering traffic to original websites, potentially impacting ad-supported web content. As competition grows with AI tools from companies like OpenAI and startups such as Arc, Google’s Disco distinguishes itself by building functional AI-generated tools instead of only summarizing web data.
