  • The victim was held hostage outside Paris for over two days, and a ransom demand of $8 million was made.
  • Kidnappers cut off one of the father’s fingers to pressure the family for payment.
  • Authorities have charged at least six suspects, including a 24-year-old alleged mastermind operating from Morocco.
  • French officials are increasing security for crypto entrepreneurs following a recent series of abductions.

French police have made more arrests in connection with the abduction of the father of an unnamed crypto millionaire, according to recent reports. The incident took place on May 1, when a group of masked men kidnapped the victim in a van and held him captive for over two days in a house outside Paris. Their goal was to extract a ransom from the family.

Authorities reported that the kidnappers demanded up to $8 million from the crypto entrepreneur. During the hostage situation, they cut off one of the father’s fingers in an effort to speed up negotiation, as stated by France 24. Police carried out a raid that resulted in the victim’s rescue.

Investigations led to the arrest of several suspects. According to France 24, at least six individuals have been charged so far. One alleged organizer, a 24-year-old, was apprehended last week and is suspected of directing the kidnappings from Morocco, paying younger participants several thousand dollars to carry out the abductions.

The case is similar to previous incidents involving cryptocurrency executives in France, including the kidnapping and mutilation of Ledger CEO David Balland. Investigators believe that some of the suspects are linked to a broader network involved in unrelated kidnapping plots across the country.

During the same period, French authorities charged an additional 25 individuals, including minors, in connection with various other abduction plans, as reported by The Guardian.

In response to the growing number of cryptocurrency-related kidnappings, French government officials have announced plans to strengthen protections for crypto entrepreneurs. The government aims to increase law enforcement support for those at risk in the digital asset sector.
