Sally Mayweather is a popular Bitcoin advocate with nearly 200,000 followers on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter).
On Monday, August 14th, she shared a snippet from an old video interview conducted by a journalist from Diario ClarÃn with the current presidential candidate of Argentina, Javier Milei.
In that interview, Milei expressed his support for Bitcoin (BTC). He had said, “Bitcoin is the natural reaction to the central banks’ scam.”
Along with the video, Mayweather wrote, “Unfortunately, friends, the cartel doesn’t tolerate dissent at this level. I predict they will sabotage his political career, and if that fails, they will take him on the proverbial ride through Dallas in a convertible.”
By saying “the cartel,” the Bitcoin advocate could be referring to the traditional political establishment or the established powers, which, in her opinion, wouldn’t allow someone like Javier Milei, who claims to be against the “political caste,” to attain a significant level of power.
The reference to the “ride through Dallas in a convertible” alludes to the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who was killed in Dallas while riding in a convertible car. The implication is that they might try to harm Milei in some way if they can’t undermine his career.
Mayweather received dozens of replies to those tweets, but one stood out: Diana Mondino’s, a candidate for deputy in the La Libertad Avanza party led by Javier Milei.
Mondino’s response consisted of two sentences. The first was a joke: “They already tried, but his hair acts like a bulletproof helmet.” The second sentence was something that could be interpreted as a promise: “Argentina will soon become a Bitcoin paradise.”
The candidate didn’t provide further explanations about how Argentina would become a “Bitcoin paradise.” It’s worth noting that the La Libertad Avanza party’s government plan doesn’t include any proposal directly related to Bitcoin.
Nevertheless, Milei has expressed positive views about digital currency on multiple occasions. Regarding laws regulating its use, he has said:
“It is imperative for governments to stay out of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. (…) The true beauty of these technologies lies in their decentralization and autonomy. (…) Any attempt to impose regulations will only serve to restrict their potential.”
Who is Diana Mondino?

In March 2022, amid the Russian-Ukrainian war, Mondino highlighted Bitcoin’s utility as a medium of exchange and payment, i.e., its “transnationality.”
The economist and now candidate for deputy has also been invited to participate in podcasts and conferences centered around Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
