  • The DFINITY Foundation joins ETH Zurich AI Center as an Industry Partner, gaining access to AI research and talent.
  • The Internet Computer Protocol processes over 2 million Ethereum-equivalent transactions per second.
  • Recent protocol updates (Tokamak, Beryllium, Stellarator) improved network performance and storage capabilities.
  • ICP offers unique capabilities to host AI models within smart contracts on a decentralized network.
  • The partnership aims to advance both AI development and Web3 technology integration.

DFINITY Foundation has established a strategic partnership with the ETH Zurich AI Center, marking a significant step toward integrating Artificial Intelligence capabilities with blockchain technology. The collaboration positions the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) to expand its role in AI development and deployment.

Advancing AI Through Decentralized Infrastructure

The Internet Computer Protocol distinguishes itself as the sole public blockchain network capable of executing AI operations through smart contracts. According to network statistics, ICP processes more than 2 million Ethereum-equivalent transactions per second, surpassing the annual computational output of other blockchain networks within a single hour.

Recent protocol improvements, including the Tokamak, Beryllium, and Stellarator updates, have enhanced network performance metrics, reducing latency and expanding storage capacity. These modifications support more sophisticated AI applications and improved developer experiences.

ETH Zurich’s Strategic Role

ETH Zurich, a leading Swiss academic institution, brings substantial AI expertise through its AI Center. The institution’s involvement in ICAIN (International Computation and AI Network) demonstrates its commitment to responsible AI development aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are very excited to have yet another fantastic member join our ecosystem,” stated Daniel Naeff, head of innovation and entrepreneurship at the ETH AI Center. “There are many different activities that we now can jointly endeavor,” as outlined in their partnership announcement.

Technical Integration and Future Development

The Internet Computer’s architecture supports comprehensive data storage and processing capabilities, allowing developers to build applications using Web3 technology while maintaining compatibility with traditional Web2 systems through features like HTTPS outcalls.

The development roadmap indicates additional technical improvements ahead. Developers can currently implement AI models and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) infrastructure directly on the network, with more AI-focused features planned for future releases.

Organizations interested in participating in this technological advancement can explore collaboration opportunities through the official Internet Computer AI initiative.
