Crypto OG Tone Vays admits ‘idiot’ move giving hackers PC access

Crypto educator Tone Vays admits he gave hackers remote access during Microsoft Teams interview leading to malware

  • Self-proclaimed crypto educator Tone Vays admitted he gave Hackers remote access to his PC during a Microsoft Teams interview.
  • Attackers posing as a legitimate YouTube channel used screen sharing to install Trojan Malware on his computer.
  • Vays disconnected his PC, reinstalled his operating system, and confirmed no Bitcoin credentials were stored on the device.
  • He vowed to stop doing interviews with strangers and abandon software like Zoom and Teams in favor of web interfaces.

Crypto OG and self-proclaimed financial educator Tone Vays admitted he was an idiot for giving hackers remote access to his PC during an hour-long Microsoft Teams interview. According to Vays, the hackers, who claimed to run a legitimate YouTube channel, used the screen sharing function to download Trojan malware onto his computer.

When he realized what happened, he disconnected his PC, reinstalled his operating system, and skipped saving any files. “I was an idiot and gave them access control permissions,” he explained. Vays claims that everything looks “OK” and that he doesn’t store any Bitcoin credentials or password details on his PC.

He compared the incident to what happened to fellow Bitcoin educator Jimmy Song, who in March admitted his Telegram was likely hacked by North Korea and used to set up fake Zoom calls with malicious intent. Vays’ recent experience, however, appears to have scared him away from strangers and Microsoft Teams.

Consequently, he claimed he “will no longer do interviews unless I’m friends with the person. Will also never use software like Zoom or Teams or any other download, only web interfaces like Google meets.”
