Crypto Gaming Tokens Plummet, Vanish from Top 100 as Market Struggles

Gaming Tokens Disappear from Top 100 Rankings as Eve Frontier Launches Trial and Immutable Plans Network Merger

  • Gaming tokens have disappeared from the top 100 cryptocurrency rankings by market cap despite having six representatives a year ago.
  • Eve Frontier launched a 10-day free trial period on April 11, allowing players to explore the Ethereum-based MMO without needing paid Founders Access passes.
  • Immutable announced plans to merge its original Immutable X network with its newer zkEVM blockchain by late 2025 to unify its gaming ecosystem.

Crypto gaming tokens have vanished from the top 100 cryptocurrency rankings, with Immutable (IMX) becoming the latest casualty after dropping from the list last Monday. This marks a significant decline from last year when six gaming tokens, including The Sandbox (SAND) and GALA Games (GALA), held positions in the top 100. Industry experts note that gaming tokens have been hit particularly hard amid recent market volatility triggered by President Trump’s trade policies.

The downward trend affects both established gaming cryptocurrencies and newer tokens launched over the past year, all of which have experienced substantial price decreases. This decline coincides with broader challenges facing the crypto gaming sector, prompting industry analysts to reexamine the relationship between token values and the underlying gaming ecosystems.

Major Developments in Crypto Gaming Space

Eve Frontier, an Ethereum-based MMO space survival game, began a 10-day free trial on April 11, allowing players to explore its universe without purchasing paid Founders Access passes. The trial period runs through April 21 and aligns with the game’s third development phase. CCP Games, which raised $40 million in 2023 to expand its Eve Online universe via blockchain technology, launched closed alpha access in December with Founders passes priced between $30-$90.

The game operates on Redstone, an Ethereum layer-2 network, and will eventually support multiple tokens, including a planned EVE utility token. Eve Frontier builds upon the legacy of Eve Online, a hardcore MMORPG released in 2003 that maintains an active player community with extensive lore.

Meanwhile, Immutable announced plans to consolidate its blockchain infrastructure by merging the original Immutable X network into its newer Immutable zkEVM layer-2 blockchain. The integration, scheduled for completion in late 2025, aims to unify Immutable’s gaming ecosystem following significant growth that saw the zkEVM network process nearly 150 million transactions since early 2024.

Additional Gaming Network Changes

Several other blockchain gaming platforms announced significant infrastructure changes. Aavegotchi, an Ethereum-based game, is migrating from Polygon to Base following a community vote and will shut down its layer-3 Geist network. Xterio Chain will be sunset with all assets transferring to BNB Chain, while Horizon Blockchain Games has rebranded as Sequence, the name of its gaming infrastructure suite.

Realms of Alurya announced its move to Ronin Network, calling it “a powerful step into the next era of Web3 gaming.” Additionally, Heroes of Mavia released its 2025 roadmap, outlining plans for game updates, a marketplace launch, and development of additional games, demonstrating continued development activity despite the challenged token market.
