BNB Chain Plans 5,000 DEX Swaps/Sec in Major 2025-2026 Upgrade

The network plans to raise its block gas limit from 100 million to 1 billion to handle higher user activity.

  • BNB Chain will upgrade its infrastructure in the second half of 2025 to process up to 5,000 decentralized exchange (DEX) swaps per second.
  • A new Rust-based client, built on Ethereum’s Reth system with modifications, will offer faster syncing, better memory use, and efficient smart contract execution.
  • Additional improvements include “Super Instructions” for streamlined smart contracts and an updated StateDB system for faster, more efficient blockchain operations.
  • By 2026, BNB Chain aims to deliver 20,000 transactions per second, add privacy features, and enhance user experience to be as smooth as popular apps.

BNB Chain announced plans for a major infrastructure upgrade in the second half of 2025 to increase its onchain transaction capacity. The network said it will support up to 5,000 decentralized exchange (DEX) swaps per second by expanding its technical capabilities across decentralized applications.

According to BNB Chain, the block gas limit will rise from 100 million to 1 billion. This increase is intended to meet user demand and help maintain smooth activity on the platform. The network will launch a Rust-based client based on Ethereum’s Reth architecture, featuring modifications to support higher performance. BNB Chain officials stated this upgrade aims to improve node synchronization and memory management while executing smart contracts more efficiently.

The team also announced the introduction of “Super Instructions,” which will bundle multiple smart contract functions into a single command, simplifying processes such as token swaps and event launches. An upgrade to the StateDB system—a database that records accounts, balances, smart contracts, and related data—will aim to reduce unnecessary data access and speed up operations across a larger data set.

Looking ahead to 2026, BNB Chain shared details of a blockchain architecture under development that can process 20,000 transactions per second, with confirmation times under 150 milliseconds. The network said it plans to integrate privacy measures, upgradable virtual machines, and more user-friendly tools, stating, “The next phase of BNB Chain will make onchain access as intuitive as logging into your favorite app, while still giving you full control of your assets.”

In parallel, Ethereum is preparing for significant updates, including the mainnet integration of zero-knowledge technology, as developer Sophia Gold reported on July 11. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently recommended a minimal approach to developing layer-2 networks, which could encourage existing blockchains to become Ethereum layer-2s. More details are available in this coverage.

As activity grows across leading blockchains, these planned improvements aim to make blockchain user experiences faster and more accessible while handling increased transaction volumes.
