An article published by FinTech Magazine confirms that the company has posted a job ad for a new head of “digital currency and blockchain”. The ad suggests that Amazon is looking for an “experienced leader to develop Amazon’s digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap”.

It is believed that this move is a direct response to the increased competition from other tech giants such as Meta/Facebook who have recruited their own team of experts to create a blockchain concept.
Google has also recently come into partnership with Bakkt, paving the way for the acceptance of crypto in its Google Pay app.
2022 has been set as the year in which Amazon will launch its own cryptocurrency, but there are no clear details on exactly when that year will be. It is expected that customers will be able to use the Amazon Crypto Token while shopping on the company’s site, though it is unclear how long it will take to implement this.
Amazon had considered the possibility in the past, offering positions to blockchain specialists, though the projects were much more low-key than what is being promoted now.
Amazon calls its blockchain Amazon Managed Blockchain and already offers a lot of information about the concept on its website.
