- Arthur Hayes predicts an AI bubble burst could redirect capital into Bitcoin, driving its price higher.
- Hayes compares AI capital expenditure to “boring real estate,” warning that a slowdown will expose over-leveraged firms.
- He expects government intervention and money printing, similar to the 2008 crisis, to fuel Bitcoin’s rise to $1 million.
- Michael Burry has shorted several AI companies, including NVIDIA, signaling skepticism about the AI boom’s sustainability.
In a recent Substack article, prominent cryptocurrency advocate and analyst Arthur Hayes argued that an AI bubble burst could ultimately benefit Bitcoin. Hayes likens current AI capital expenditure to “boring real estate,” predicting that a slowdown in data center construction will expose over-leveraged AI companies and weak borrowers.
Consequently, Hayes believes the government will intervene under the guise of national security. He states, “misallocation of capital will find its way into crypto … pumping Bitcoin to da moon!” The analyst adds, “As credit expands against a deceleration of AI CAPEX spend, Bitcoin will bottom and begin a secular rise.”
Hayes further claims that authorities will print more money than during the 2008 financial crisis. This, he writes, “will ultimately drive Bitcoin to one million and beyond.” Meanwhile, financial analyst Michael Burry, who profited from the 2008 housing collapse, has shorted several AI companies including Nvidia.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, however, dismisses the idea of an imminent bubble burst, stating the real challenge is building fast enough to match growth. If an AI bubble burst does occur, a flood of capital could pivot from traditional assets into Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market.
