- Ripple Prime’s (formerly Hidden Road) listing in the NSCC directory is for standard OTC trade execution, not for settling DTCC transactions on the XRPL.
- Ripple press releases stated its subsidiary *“will migrate its post-trade activity across XRPL”*, indicating a future aspiration, not a current operation.
- The DTCC notice assigns clearing duties to Pershing LLC, with the explicit note that XRPL plays no role in those clearing or settlement transactions.
In March 2026, a routine notice from a Depository Trust Clearing Corporation (DTCC) subsidiary generated a wave of mistaken excitement within the XRP community. The National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCC) added Ripple Prime to its directory, leading some declared this as proof of massive transaction volumes migrating to the XRP Ledger.
However, this listing merely authorizes the firm to operate as an executing broker for over-the-counter (OTC) trades. Consequently, the approval shows only OTC products are eligible, not other securities like corporates. Meanwhile, its clearing broker is Pershing LLC, a BNY Mellon subsidiary, which handles the final settlement through NSCC.
The confusion stemmed from Ripple‘s earlier announcement of its $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road. Its press release stated, “Hidden Road will, in turn, migrate its post-trade activity across XRPL to streamline operations and lower costs.” The future tense of “will” indicated this was an aspiration, not a current reality. Even XRPL co-creator David Schwartz praised the initial directory news.
Nonetheless, the Hidden Road website, even ten months post-acquisition, makes no mention of XRPL integration. It still describes itself as a “global credit network for institutions” offering traditional and digital asset services. Therefore, while the firm has the regulatory scaffolding, no DTCC transactions are currently settled on the XRP Ledger.
