WisdomTree, a global asset manager, has launched the Equity Premium Income Digital Fund (ticker: EPXC; fund ticker: WTPIX), which applies a traditional options strategy directly on blockchain. The fund tracks the Volos US Large Cap Target 2.5% PutWrite Index, designed to generate income through systematic put-writing. This strategy involves selling cash-secured put options, but instead of the S&P 500 directly, it uses contracts linked to the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY).
Put-writing strategies provide investors with predictable premium income and can buffer against volatility or slight market declines. The tokenized EPXC fund is accessible to institutional investors, retail clients, and crypto natives. Blockchain infrastructure enables quicker trade settlements and more flexible asset transfers than traditional fund structures. Will Peck, WisdomTree’s head of digital assets, stated the launch expands on the firm’s efforts to offer investment choices executed onchain.
WisdomTree has been a pioneer in the tokenization of assets and currently offers 15 tokenized funds on blockchains such as Ethereum, Avalanche, and Base. Their Government Money Market Digital Fund, a tokenized government money market fund investing in short-term U.S. government securities, is the most active product, managing more than $730 million in assets, according to industry data. In addition, the firm launched a tokenized private credit fund in September, which has seen rapid inflows.
While other traditional institutions like Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon have recently introduced tokenized money market products, adoption across the broader financial industry has been slower. The rise of stablecoins as quasi-cash instruments in the digital asset ecosystem has influenced this shift toward tokenization.
