- The free-to-play game enables digital ownership of cards, allowing players to collect, trade, and customize their decks.
- This adds to Ubisoft’s growing portfolio of Web3 games, including Champions Tactics: Grimoria and Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft and Web3 company Immutable have joined forces to develop Might & Magic: Fates, a new blockchain-powered strategy card game for iOS and Android devices. According to information shared with Cointelegraph, this mobile title merges traditional strategic gameplay with modern blockchain technology within the beloved Might & Magic universe.
The game is designed to offer players complete digital ownership of their in-game assets through Immutable’s Web3 infrastructure. Players will have access to hundreds of collectible cards featuring legendary heroes and creatures, with gameplay centered around faction-based strategies and competitive tactical decision-making.
“The game is free-to-play with no hard progression barriers. Players advance by collecting cards and in-game currency through gameplay,” explained Justin Hulog, chief studio officer for Immutable, in statements to Cointelegraph. “Additionally, those looking to speed up their progression or acquire specific cards can do so through marketplaces.”
Hulog further noted that players will have the ability to trade their digital collectible cards through dedicated platforms, emphasizing the ownership aspect that blockchain technology enables.
Immutable’s Blockchain Foundation
Immutable will provide the blockchain technology powering Might & Magic: Fates. The company has established itself in the Web3 gaming space with titles such as Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians, both designed to give players true ownership of in-game assets.
Gods Unchained operates as a free-to-play NFT trading card game where players collect, trade, and battle using player-owned cards on Immutable’s gas-free layer-2 solution. Meanwhile, Guild of Guardians offers a mobile RPG experience where players assemble NFT-based hero teams for dungeon raids.
Ubisoft’s Expanding Web3 Portfolio
This partnership adds to Ubisoft’s growing collection of Web3 gaming initiatives. In October 2024, the company launched Champions Tactics: Grimoria on the Oasys layer-2 Home Verse blockchain, marking its first major Web3 technology integration.
Following this, Ubisoft collaborated with the Arbitrum Foundation in December 2024 to release Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., a Web3-enabled top-down shooter. This game features characters from popular Ubisoft franchises including Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Rayman, Assassin’s Creed, and several others.
With Might & Magic: Fates, Ubisoft continues its strategic push into blockchain gaming while leveraging one of its established gaming universes to potentially attract both traditional and Web3 gaming audiences.
