Three teenagers were arrested after police say they kidnapped a man at gunpoint and stole approximately $4 million in cryptocurrency and digital assets last November in Las Vegas. Authorities identified the suspects as Belaf Mohamed Ashraf, Austin Jay Fletcher, and Hassan Elsama Hassan, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Police reports state that the incident occurred after the victim hosted a cryptocurrency event in downtown Las Vegas. The suspects allegedly confronted the victim when he returned home, forced him to reveal his digital account passwords, and then drove him out to the desert.
The teenagers reportedly took the man to a remote location in Arizona, about 26 miles across the state border, and released him in the desert. The victim told investigators that he walked five miles to the nearest gas station before contacting police. The suspects were later arrested and are being tried as adults.
Authorities say the digital assets stolen included both cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are unique digital collectibles stored on a blockchain.
Further details from FOX5 show that the investigation led to swift arrests after the incident was reported. The teenagers are now facing serious charges, and the case remains under review by law enforcement agencies.
