Preserving your love on the blockchain, swiping right on crypto, and a lovely night in with pizza.

Today is Valentine’s Day, a day where we spend our time showing the special people in our lives just how much we love them. And because this is the cryptosphere, what better way to show your love than by injecting it with complex computational algorithms? To make sure your wallet isn’t the only hot item on Valentine’s Day, here are some blockchain and cryptocurrency-related options to make everyone’s day extra special.

A Modern Love Letter

Roses are red. ETHNews is purple. I’m documenting my love for the alligator snapping turtle.

Okay, so not a lot of things rhyme with purple, but the point is, if you were looking to really preserve your love for the alligator snapping turtle, or, more likely, for your significant other, why not preserve it on a blockchain? The website Indelible Note will let you do just that. For $2, users can write out a note to their partner, lover, crush, or anyone and have it etched onto the Ethereum blockchain forever.

The symbolism of documenting your eternally bound love on an immutable and everlasting blockchain is, in itself, enough to get anyone’s node in a tizzy, but that’s not even the most romantic part. Think about it. What are blockchains good for?

Did you say resisting authoritarian regimes and rebuilding countries? Okay, but that’s not quite the answer I was looking for.

Rebranding? Yipes.

Let me just stop you there. Everyone knows blockchains are good for virtually eliminating third-party tampering, and, tbh, nothing’s more romantic than that.

A Crypto Hookup

Of course, there are many ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and maybe something as serious as a blockchain love letter isn’t for you. Luckily, payment provider Bitrefill announced this week that users will be able to purchase premium Tinder subscriptions with bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Dash.

Technically, the process is a bit more complicated than that. Users can spend their bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, or Dash on a Google Play or iTunes gift card which can then be used to purchase a premium Tinder subscription.

While spending your cryptocurrency on Tinder to liven up your Valentine’s Day might sound fun, I’ve spotted two possible problems: (1) With the proclivity for ghosting in Tinder relationships, we might have to rename Casper, and (2) how long before someone uses Ð for something more serious than dogecoin?

Thank You, Pizza

Finally, Valentine’s Day isn’t only for those who want to show their significant other how much they care. It can also be about showing yourself some much-needed love by ordering a pizza and just spending the night in. You can order that pizza using Lightning Pizza, an offering from the payment app Fold that enables you to order Domino’s using bitcoin’s Lightning Network.

At the moment, Lightning Pizza is offering five percent off your order. Unfortunately, because Domino’s doesn’t have a heart-shaped pizza, you’ll have to find other Valentine-themed menu options to make sure you really show yourself how much you love yourself.

I imagine there’s probably some kind of meat or veggie lover’s pizza. That has the word love in it.

Domino’s has desserts. Desserts are inherently romantic.

You could also order boneless chicken wings. I think that one just speaks for itself.

Nicholas Ruggieri studied English with an emphasis in creative writing at the University of Nevada, Reno. When he’s not quoting Vines at anyone who’s willing to listen, you’ll find him listening to too many podcasts, reading too many books, and crocheting too many sweaters for his dogs, RT and Peterman.
