- Standard Chartered has consolidated its payment divisions and appointed Naveen Mallela as Global Head of Payments.
- Mallela joins from J.P. Morgan‘s blockchain unit, where he was co-head of the Kinexys platform.
- The move highlights growing client demand for integrated solutions across both traditional and on-chain financial flows.
Standard Chartered announced the appointment of Naveen Mallela as its new Global Head of Payments, effective May 4th, based in Singapore. This strategic hire consolidates the bank’s traditionally separate payments, clearing, and collections teams into one unified organization.
Consequently, the restructure directly responds to increasing client demand for comprehensive solutions. These solutions now must span both traditional finance rails and emerging on-chain payment flows.
Mallela joins from J.P. Morgan, where he served as co-head of its permissioned blockchain platform, Kinexys. His role at the unit focused on enabling real-time cross-border payments and digital asset settlement.
Meanwhile, Kara Kennedy remains as the other co-head of J.P. Morgan‘s Kinexys unit following his departure. The bank publicly announced Mallela’s exit in early February.
