- Sonic Labs reaffirms its blockchain is permissionless but will not guarantee success for projects built on it.
- Ecosystem support initiatives are meant to bootstrap early adoption, not insulate projects from market failure.
- The foundation retains the right to focus its cooperation on teams providing a net positive impact to the network.
- Application teams bear full responsibility for their product execution and achieving real user traction.
The development team behind Sonic, a permissionless Layer 1 blockchain, has clarified its role in fostering the ecosystem. Consequently, they emphasized that open access does not equate to guaranteed outcomes for builders. This statement outlines clear boundaries between the network’s infrastructure and the responsibilities of individual application teams.
Sonic Labs has historically supported builders through targeted initiatives to accelerate early adoption. However, these efforts are not designed to shield projects from market realities or ensure product-market fit. “Narratives change, and it is not the foundation’s role to sustain applications that lack real demand,” the statement read.
Application teams remain solely responsible for their products and attracting real users. Meanwhile, the foundation will continue providing robust infrastructure and ecosystem support according to specific guidelines. It explicitly stated it cannot subsidize applications that fail to achieve meaningful traction.
The principle is simple: while Sonic is permissionless, Sonic Labs retains discretion over its cooperative support. Open access to infrastructure does not obligate them to support teams whose actions run counter to the ecosystem’s interests. Therefore, they focus collaboration on builders who contribute a net positive impact.
