Theta Expands Academic Reach with Seoul National University Partnership

Theta Labs has announced a strategic partnership with Seoul National University (SNU), South Korea‘s leading national institution, to provide GPU computing resources through its EdgeCloud platform.

The collaboration centers on SNU’s AIoT Lab, led by Associate Professor Hyung-Sin Kim, and will support research initiatives in ambient AI, IoT systems, and AI-driven healthcare solutions.

Academic Adoption Momentum

Since EdgeCloud’s introduction in June, Theta has secured partnerships with prominent institutions including University of Oregon, Korea University, and KAIST. The platform now serves four of Asia’s top five universities.

Research Excellence and Recognition

The AIoT Lab has demonstrated significant achievements in AI research:

  • Best Poster Award for Sleep AI at ACM MobiSys 2024
  • First place in the 2023 Samsung AI Challenge
  • Publications in prestigious conferences including CVPR 2024 and ICCV 2023

Professor Kim’s research portfolio includes over 70 publications and six U.S. patents, with particular focus on healthcare applications and federated learning systems.

Platform Implementation and Future Applications

"The EdgeCloud platform will allow US to push the boundaries of Ambient AI and IoT applications in areas such as healthcare and real-time data processing," stated Professor Kim, adding that "Theta’s blockchain powered decentralized AI infrastructure with over 30,000 global nodes will redefine today’s GPU landscape."

  • On-device AI processing

Market Position and Growth Strategy

This partnership strengthens Theta’s position in the academic sector and supports its strategy to onboard 50 additional academic institutions across Asia and North America.
