- Radix has launched Phase 2 of Multi-Factor Smart Accounts on Stokenet, enabling users to update their security settings safely.
- Users must present factors from any two of three roles—Regular Access, Recovery Access, or Confirmation Access—to change their security configuration.
- The Recovery role allows starting a timed recovery process that does not require immediate confirmation from another role but enforces a delay before finalizing changes.
- The Radix Wallet guides users through signing update transactions or starting recovery when a factor is lost, displaying clear status and options during timed recovery.
- The security update process involves accessing the Security Shield in the wallet, editing factors, signing transactions, and managing recovery when needed.
Radix has introduced Phase 2 of its Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) system for Smart Accounts on Stokenet, the Radix public test network. This phase allows users to safely update their account security structure anytime through an enhanced recovery process. Previously, after setting a security configuration in Phase 1, users could not modify it even if access to a factor was lost.
To update security settings, users must provide authentication from any two of the three designated roles: Regular Access, Recovery Access, and Confirmation Access. One role initiates the update, and another confirms it. Updates can begin with either Regular or Recovery access, and confirmation requires any different role, offering flexibility while maintaining security.
The Recovery role has a special function called timed recovery, which activates if users lose access to other roles. This process begins without immediate confirmation but requires approval from any role after a set delay configured during account setup. This mechanism prevents permanent lockout even if multiple factors or devices are lost. Further details are available here.
Within the Radix Wallet, updating security involves signing a transaction that confirms the change. The wallet demands signatures according to the current setup. It also facilitates recovery flows if a factor is missing by guiding users through skipping unavailable factors. When using only the Recovery role to sign, the wallet explains that a timed recovery is being started. If two roles sign, the update applies immediately; if only Recovery signs, the account enters timed recovery.
During timed recovery, the wallet shows a banner indicating the recovery state. Users can tap it to see recovery details, remaining time, and options to stop or confirm the recovery after the delay. Confirming finalizes the updated security factors. Should lost factors be regained, users can stop timed recovery and use the standard immediate update method.
Users can initiate the security update by opening Account Settings in the Radix Wallet, selecting Security Shield, and tapping Edit Factors. They proceed to adjust the factors and confirm the new structure. Signing follows as prompted. If only Recovery factors are used, the option to start an Emergency Fallback triggers timed recovery. The wallet then displays the recovery status and provides screens to manage cancellation or confirmation as needed.
