The crypto gaming industry saw several significant changes this week. MapleStory N launched on the Avalanche blockchain, introducing blockchain technology to its established MMORPG gameplay. In contrast, Nyan Heroes, a shooter game on Solana, will close after difficulties raising more capital.

After its launch, MapleStory N led to a 549% rise in Avalanche active addresses and set a record with over 1.7 million free Scroll NFTs minted. The game’s ecosystem token, Nexpace (NXPC), briefly reached a market cap above $600 million, then stabilized below $400 million by Sunday, making it one of the top gaming tokens currently available.

9 Lives Interactive, the studio behind Nyan Heroes, stated that acquisition talks are ongoing but uncertain. CEO Max Fu confirmed the game, which had more than one million players and conducted a recent NYAN token airdrop, will shut down due to financial challenges in the sector. The NYAN token fell by 40% after the announcement and is now down nearly 99% from its May peak. Other games, including The Mystery Society and The Walking Dead: Empires, also announced closures.

Pixelmon revealed it will launch its flagship mobile RPG Warden’s Ascent and other future projects on Avalanche in late 2025. Current Pixelmon assets will remain on Ethereum and Monster Tycoon will continue on Immutable zkEVM. CEO Giulio Xiloyannis cited Avalanche’s scalability, which can support millions of players and offers the potential for a dedicated Pixelmon subnet, as the primary reason for this decision.

Other notable developments include the start of the week-long DX Terminal crypto experiment with AI bots trading digital coins, and the viral popularity of Noodle.gg, a Slither.io-like game with crypto rewards. The blockchain game Pixels added a mini-game with token rewards, while Blast Royale announced its shutdown with plans to open-source its code.

Additional activity saw Sugartown’s 7,777-item NFT drop on Abstract sell out, VRChat introduce a new avatar marketplace, and Off the Grid expand access to Avalanche mainnet for in-game trading.
