- The stock performance of both Nvidia (NVDA) and Amazon (AMZN) remained relatively unchanged following the announcement.
In a landmark cloud infrastructure deal, Nvidia has agreed to sell one million graphics processing units to Amazon Web Services, with deliveries stretching from this year through 2027. This partnership, the first with an official multi-year timeline, was confirmed Friday by Nvidia vice president Ian Buck according to reports.
The agreement encompasses far more than just GPUs, extending to Nvidia‘s Spectrum networking chips and newly released Groq chips. Nvidia obtained the Groq technology through a $17 billion licensing deal with the AI chip startup in late 2025.
Consequently, AWS plans to deploy a combination of Groq chips alongside six other Nvidia chip types to optimize demanding AI inference workloads. “Inference is hard. It’s wickedly hard,” Buck stated, emphasizing that “to be the best at inference, it is not a one-chip pony.”
This massive deal concludes a significant week for Nvidia, which started with its annual GTC event featuring several promising updates. The event included CEO Jensen Huang’s bullish projection that the firm’s revenue is likely to double to $1 trillion by 2027.
Meanwhile, neither company’s stock responded strongly to the GPU deal announcement, with both down around 1% at press time. Nvidia shares have slipped amid broader economic concerns, AI competition, and legal issues with key partners.
The company’s long-term ability to meet the one-million-unit commitment will ultimately determine the partnership’s success. Early 2027 fiscal results will provide the first clear indicator of the financial impact from the AWS collaboration.
